The Fancy Fiddlers is a group of about 23 young talented string
players, all
of whom are pupils of Coosje Wijzenbeek.
Coosje Wijzenbeek is a prominent
teacher in the field of young exceptionally gifted children.
She is Professor of
Violin at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam.
She has given courses at Margess International Music Course in Switzerland and
at the Indiana University, Bloomington, USA. Coosje regularly organizes workshops for violin
teachers.
The
Fancy Fiddlers were founded in 1984 on the occasion of an exchange programme
with Hungary.
The enthusiasm among the pupils to participate in this programme
was so immense, that forming a string ensemble was the only solution.
The first
performance was a great success and many performances followed.
In various
combinations the group play a wide range of chamber music repertoire,
alternating with solo pieces for violin or cello and piano.
The Fancy
Fiddlers have been a starting point for many new independent music groups who
are now part of today's young professional music scene.
